2 Way Monitors?

Hi there - we're in the market for a baby monitor - and thus far everyone I've talked to has recommended the Summer Infant Video monitor - and so that's what we're leaning towards - however, I am wondering about 2 way monitors - has anyone out there had a good experience with the type of monitor that you can communicate with your baby with the touch of a button? The floor plan of our home is spread out - and if we have a video monitor where I can see that the baby is fine and recognize that he just wants a little reassurance, it would sure be nice to be able to calm him remotely in the middle of the night as opposed to getting up and hiking to that end of the house. Any product suggestions with this capability?

I have this very monitor, but you can not communicate with your baby with a touch of a button unless I have not figured out how to do so. It is video, not a speaker.

We have the Evenflo Whisper Connect 2 way monitor that we bought off of Craigslist. I was not able to find any 2 way baby monitors in the stores within the last year, so I was lucky to find this one from someone locally! We use it for our 3 year old, he still will not get out of bed in the morning or after nap unless we come up and get him, or can yell to him. So we basically got them to let him know it's ok to get up, or it's still too early, etc. I don't think either of my boys would've been too soothed just hearing my voice, but that'd be awesome if it'd work for you! One of my friends used to use 2 sets of monitors, and just put one the opposite way you normally do, so then you can just turn it on and talk to baby when you want to. (Hopefully that makes sense) The only downside to the Whisper Connect, is that when you press the button to talk to them it makes a loud beep sound to let you know it's ok to talk now. Not a big deal if you're husband can sleep through it!

Hi there! I just read in my Women's Health magazine that baby monitors emit more radiation than a cell phone. November 2010 It says "a recent study shows RF radiation can penetrate almost entirely through a child's brain. Putting baby monitors next to a crib is very unwise."

I wish I would have known this before I used it with my kids. In hindsight, I never really needed them. The second your baby moves, you hear them. It is instinctual. Best of luck!

I have not heard of this but if you don't find one, don't worry if you have to physically reassure your baby. She or he'll prefer you personally and this time of your life actually goes really, really fast. Good luck and congratulations!!
