1St Trimester How Much Work Is Safe?

I'm 7 weeks pregnant &i have had some light spotting & my job requires me to be pretty physical. I work at a very busy deli so I'm running a slicer and on my feet for a 6 hour shift 5nights a week. Is this too much? I'm tired at the end of the night but not bad. I just worry about the spotting. Should I cut the hours down or cut a day out of the week? Or both? P.S. I also have a 4yr old at home but we try to relax as much as we can during the day. (my doctor knows about the pink/brown spotting but never said anything about work that's why I posted)

What can I do next?

Congratulations! But this is a question for your doctor, really. All of us mean well, but just reading some responses here made me nervous. For me, my miscarriages (all 3) were characterized by brownish blood/spotting--NOT red and not pink at all....so you see, the best guidance really can come from a professional.
However, I did fairly physical work with my pregnancy and was fine.
Put your mind at ease and call.
Never hesitate to call the office--that's why they are there!
Best of luck to you!

I have heard/read spotting is not an issue if it is not accompanied by cramping in pregnancy, but I haven't been through it myself and it would freak me out. You could cut back I think. Taking care of your child all day and then working all night sounds like a heavy load and maybe your body in particular is protesting, so why not listen to it. I do know that the older I get the greater toll things take. I was 30 when prego with my first and I was working full time right to the end outdoors in the summer and it was really physical, but at night I flopped on the couch and I never cooked! Now I am a mama of two, 5 years older and prego and it is harder and I am more tired. As everyone said, I'd talk to my dr, but taking a day off mid week or cutting back your hours may be what you need to get through. Hang in there and congratulations :D

Spotting is not always bad and doesn't always mean "the end". I am VERY newly pregnant myself and bled like I had a period over the weekend, so imagine my surprise when my blood test came back positive (mine is through IVF, a very different story, but my home test came back pregnant too despite the bleeding, clots and all!). I'm not saying for you to push it, but with my first two pregnancies, I was on my feet all day as a teacher and my girls were totally fine. I still am a teacher, but off for the summer, and still on my feet all day with my kids doing things. You have to live your life... within reason of course. Just don't overdo it and of course, talk to your doctor about this. If you have a risky history it may be a different story, but if your 4 year old was born to term and without issue, that puts you in a much better place for future pregnancies.

Listen to your body.
I worked at Starbucks, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week through my entire 1st pregnancy. Oh my was I very tired.
When I got home I would go right to bed. I know that isn't something you could do with a 4 y/o at home.
I think You'll be just fine, don't lift anything crazy heavy. Take little breaks throughout the day and just get off your feet.

Is the blood pink or light brown? If it is red or more red than pink you have a real problem. Pink or light brown is sometimes from a fibroid or just the os leaks a bit.
If you want to call your doctor by all means do so. Normally this kind of heavy work is tiring but not dangerous to a pregnancy.
Are you anemic? If so vitamins for pregnancy and red meat are the cures.

Get to the doctor. They can draw blood and make sure the hormone levels are at the right level and continue to grow.
Physical activity at this stage at work is usually fine but I wouldn't risk it. If you're spotting the doctor will see you now and will tell you whether your job is too much.

Congrats on your pregnancy. Call your doctor. The spotting could be multiple things. I would talk to your ob about your case specifically to see if its too much work for you or what you should do. GL!

Yikes. Please see your doctor to check to make sure everything is ok! If it continues you need to take it easy. Who is your OB? If you're in Palatine I know a good one ;)
