I am looking for a creative idea to help remember my baby's first birthday. I have thought of things like the photo mat that you have the guests sign, but does anyone else have any other unique ideas?

Thanks So Much!

My baby's first birthday is in 2 weeks and if I remember too, I'm going to buy an inkpad and stamp his hands and feet and frame them next to his newborn prints. I plan to do that each year.

Also, I got him a special birthday plate, so every year on his birthday, he gets his cake on his birthday plate. I had one when I was little and I am sad to this day that I can't find it! :( The plate I got him is plastic, but it's cute and it has the number 1 in a big star on it, but it doesn't have to say birthday anything on it... just knowing it's a cute, special birthday plate was enough for me!

There are two things that I think are good. The first was one I didn't get to do because I didn't learn about it until too late. Southlake has a great place called Sunshine Glaze, and the owner is so helpful. She can help you make a plate. She even has the divided baby plates. You can put your baby's handprint, footprint, or picture and add whatever else to it that you want. Then they glaze it, and it makes a wonderful keepsake that yours can eat the cake from. That's what we did for the grandmothers for Christmas with footprints. FYI if you do that, you'll want to bring the baby in for footprints and come back another time by yourself to design the rest or have the employees make a design for a little extra cost.

What I did, though, and it turned out so well. . . I bought a wooden treasure type box from Michaels and painted it with my son's name and the year. I also painted sports stuff on it since that was his theme. Then I had little papers made out for guests to write on. One began, "I love you because. . ." Another "You have already impacted my life because. . ." And we had two others, but I can't remember what they were. We had them out by the box with several pens. Once they filled it out and signed it, they placed it in the box. It was really neat to read them, and it's something he can read when he gets older. You could have anything on the cards "You make me smile when you. . ." I think that was another one we had and maybe "One thing I wish for you is. . ." Good luck, and I hope some of these ideas help.

For my son's 1st birthday we bought enough of those hanes undershirts for all the kids that would be present. We also bought different colored paints and had each kid place there handprint on the shirt in paint and then I went back with a fabric pen and wrote each child's name underneath their hand print. BTW we had 4 or 5 kids there... It is an awesome keepsake. He wore it alot until he grew out of it and then I made it into a pillow. Just though I would share!!!

I have seen people buy a empty paint can like from Lowes and decorate it really cute. Then you put in 1st year momentos and b-day party things with pictures or what ever you want. Seal it and put it away marking another b-day when it will be opened. It's like a time capsule. I am going to do this for my daughter and we have decided either to give it back to her on her 16th, 18th, or 21st birthday.

I put out scrapbooking paper and had guests leave a note for my son to read later.

You can get one of those signing "mats" - and then have that framed with a picture from the party. Each person can right a personal message on the matting and that will be a lovely keepsake.
