by Dr Phil, does it really work? who's tried it or do you know somebody who tried it and worked for them? Last week on his show he had a woman on his show that lost 20 pounds in 17 days following that "17 day diet" plan, is that possible?

What can I do next?

Diets don't work. Especially fad diets. I know nothing about the specific plan you are talking about though.

In order to lose weight and keep it off, you have to change the way you eat. Smaller portions, healthier choices are key.

It probably works, for the days you are on the diet.
But if you go back to your regular habits afterwards, it will all come back.

It's much healthier to make gradual changes that you can maintain. Don't starve yourself, just cut out a few unnecessaries (like Soda or afternoon sweets), replace snacks with healthy options (carrot sticks instead of chips, fresh or canned fruit in light syrup or pear juice instead of sweets), and watch your portion size. Most adults eat at least 2 servings of a food when they think they're only having 1. These are changes that will make you healthier overall, help manage your weight, and that you can make part of your long-term habits, so the weight stays off a lot better.

Forget the diet. Just eat less and move more. You will see and feel a difference in 17days. And, if you're eating better foods, drinking more water and less alcohol, you will have a lovely spring in your step!

My SIL started on Monday and lost 7 pounds by Saturday. I'm not a big fan of using diets but sometimes it is nice to get a jumpstart. You just have to be prepared to eat well (the right way) after.

Hi,
I bought the book & I'm following the basic guidelines....but I don't feel it's a realistic plan for me. I have a family with young kids & a husband who like to eat out. On this "diet" you can't do that for the 1st 3 sets of 17 days. Basically you eat chicken, fish, veggies, sugar free yogurt....mostly sugar free stuff. I bought the book with the idea of following it. Once i got it i knew i couldn't stick to it exactly so I am applying some of the ideas into my daily life & using some of the recipes. I was eating horribly before so for me it was well worth the $13.00 to see what types of foods I should be eating and why.
