My daughter has slept precisely 3 nights since she's been born. She was 2.5 weeks early nursed her till 6.5 months and have tried so many things me and my husband are out of ppm to ask for suggestions. Her ped said try 5 meals a day as approved to three since she doesn't eat a lot at each sitting no matter how long I wait to feed her. She is up about every hour or two. Sometimes she will just go back to sleep after a little bit on her own then other times she is wide awake at midnight or 1 am. Usually she has a sappy cup of formula at 11pm and then when she wakes up around 1her stomach is growling so give her another at that time. She takes 2 short naps during the day since she's up at 530/6 everyday. Then at 730we start her bedtime routine has a bath some quite play time couple of night time poems and she is passed out in her crib no later than 8:15. She is a very finicky eater loves her veggies which is great but doesn't seem to really fill her up, she eats meats and some noodles and things that the per said was fine but just don't know what else to try. She just got to 19 lbs and is 29.5in long. So bit on slim side. The ped just keeps trying to get me to feed her more. Suggestions please.....

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just wanted to respond to some of the answers. Thanks everyone for the comments first of all. It was a very hard pregnancy followed by some extremely stressful times at home despite all the help for the lactation consultants and all the vitamins I was not producing enough so started supplementing along with nursing. We did the water at night unfortunately she loves water and it woke her up and she stayed awake for almost three hours after giving the water we kept it up for bout two weeks. But we need sleep too the sleep deprivation was getting too bad. I gave her sippy cup to get her to try it and then the bottle wasn't working anymore she'd push it away, so put the formula in cup and then she drank it. Not enough though? It seems like she is getting enough from what the doctor said. She usually has soy yogurt (she is sensitive to milk) or some oatmeal if she'll eat it when she wakes up then her formula the dr recommended to try this. Then she plays for a bit we read some books and usually she starts getting cranky I lay her in crib and she's out. Her morning nap is usually only bout an hour and a half. She gets up then the feeding again entry a wide variety of things because she is silly bout her food. She loves fresh cut green beans steamed and peas and sweet potatoes but anyway then another 8oz formula during the next 3-4 hours i'll offer her some healthy snacks and more formula sometimes she will take a bite or sip but usually nothing. Before her afternoon nap she'll have almost her whole sippy cup of formula but usually she leaves an oz or two at the bottom. That nap is her long nap and she'll sleep for 2.5hrs. Then she has another cup before bed and another at bout 11 then again at 1. The cry it out thing yep it works, how I got my older to sleep. With my younger it doesn't work too well. I go in comfort her I don't pick her up but she stays up rather crying or not she makes sure we know she is up. And I don't go straight in I wait awhile before I do go in and console. Just lately its more and more often she doesn't stop for like 1/2 hr. It is torture to hear. And I have an issue with no formula at night, if her stomach is growling how can I not give her something? Idk
Her schedule isn't crazy ridged we try and keep things the same for before bed times and it really helped her go to sleep. As far as the time she goes to bed. Trying to force her to stay awake longer hasn't worked too well, she gets so cranky and throws tantrums. The three times she did sleep pretty much all night she went to bed bout 8 like she is now. It is just so very confusing as to why she isn't now. Our older daughter is 11 so we do have a little knowledge in this area but has been a long time and they are so completely different when it comes to sleeping issues. Again thanks for writing in and if you have more things to add keep em coming please and thank you :)

Until 1 year, babies need their nutrition to come from formula or breastmilk. Like Mamazita said, table food is only for practice right now. Be careful not to introduce too many foods at once, this can lead to food sensitivities later.

I fed on demand until 1 year old, at least. It meant late nights and waking up a lot. Many babies do not sleep through the night, mine didn't, until they are at least 1 year old. I would not nightwean until 18 months, my kids were so hungry, I could not let them cry and deny them food!

I am also of the philosophy that no baby should be left alone to cry. I consider it especially cruel at this age. If your baby is crying during the night and is hungry, feed her, it's that simple.

I'm glad you are reaching out to ask these questions. Avoid advice that "feels wrong", you are her mom, don't worry about spoiling her or "giving in to her demands" at this age, she's too young for all of that. She needs YOU, and more bottles, and more cuddles! Every baby is different, my advice might not work, but if you are listening to her cry for a half hour and it's torture for you, stop doing it. Go in and pick her up and soothe her.

At ten months her primary source of nutrition should be formula or breast milk. How much formula is she getting? Table food is just "practice" at this point and really isn't going to give her body what she needs to grow, she still needs mostly formula. So please make sure she's getting plenty of that. She's bigger and growing and so will of course need more now so keep feeding her more.
I also hope you haven't taken away her bottle yet? Sippy cups are also fine for "practice" but infants usually need to suck for at least 12 to 18 months. Not giving her a bottle means she's probably not getting what she needs and the baby is hungry, unsatisfied and therefore always awake and crying, poor thing :-(
Lots of bottles, lots of cuddles!!!

Her primary source of nutrition at this age should be formula from a bottle or breast milk (pumped or bf). Solids are really just for practice. Formula and breast milk are much more calorically dense than anything else you can feed. It sounds like she is waking up because she is hungry. I would switch to feeding her on demand. If she is no longer getting a bottle, she may just not be eating enough at each meal and then waking up hungry way sooner than she should be.

Also, I would likely go with a later bedtime. DS went into his crib when we went to bed (generally after his hopefully last feeding at 11 pm-midnight). Most babies have their longest sleep right after bedtime. If that starts at 8 pm, it is completely wasted from your perspective. If the longest sleep starts when you go to bed, you might get 5-7 hours of uninterrupted sleep once she is eating better.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

Congratulations on your baby girl!!

She's growing. So her schedule will change as will her taste buds.

So you stopped breast feeding and now she's formula fed or supplemented? Why did you do that? Ask your pediatrician if she can have Pediasure..that might help her as well.

Try oatmeal and rice - those help fill a baby up. Oatmeal is healthier than rice - but it's still good.

There is nothing wrong with eating 5 to 7 small meals a day. That might help her. The not sleeping the night through? Been there - done that - my youngest didn't sleep the night through until he was one year old and that was AFTER he had tubes put in his ears...

You might have to adjust her bedtime as she gets older!

Good luck!

Sounds like her eating habits are fine. As far as sleeping goes, you can just let her cry. Just go in calm her down by patting her back. Do not pick her up. Do not feed her during night. She does not need it. Give her water. Chances Te she might not bother getting up for water. It will take some time. Be consistent and don't give in to her.

I think she needs more formula. It has nutrients for her development that food won't supply.

Give her a good snack at bed time. This might tide her over the night time hours. But in all reality, her stomach is about the size of her fist. So she needs to eat about every 3-4 hours.

Then another thing. She's almost a year old. She's getting too much sleep for a child that age. She could be down to one nap that starts right after lunch. If she goes to bed a little later she might sleep a little later in the morning too.

I will just throw this out there.

My friends daughter had trouble gaining weight, foods never really satisfied her, could never feed her enough, etc.

She had gluten allergy and A LOT of food sensitivities. Really bad. It took them awhile to get to this conclusion. Once they did she improved. She was around a year old.

Hope you get some answers

Remember,as you know from your first one, .......the days are long but the years are fast...... But when they are sleeping the days feel like double overtime :-(.

Her belly is tiny so she requires food more often.
I would give mor formula (has more staying power) w/the breastmilk along
w/the food. She'll get more sustenance & staying power w/the formula
than the tiny bits of food she can consume.
Do you give her any Gerber baby food?
I think you'll just need to feed her more to keep her satiated.
Try giving her more formula.
Yes feed her more & more often.
She's crying because she's hungry.
Maybe she's sleeping to much, too.
Does she get any activity? Crawling, playing out on a blanket on the floor
in the living room?
Also, she might be going to bed too early.
Feed her before bedtime, make sure she isn't wet or gassy, feed her
formula when she wakes up in the middle of the night so you can see
how much she's eaten plus she'll be more satiated to sleep.
Is he teething? Sick? You can give Hyland's natural teething tablets to
help in the pre-teething stage. Later give Iinfant Tylenol, later children's
Motrin for the molars that come in.
Make sure she's not too cold.
When I went through this I just went in quietly picked up my baby, made
sure diaper was dry & gave the baby a bottle in my arms until he fell
back asleep then waited no more than 10 mins to transfer back to crib
or bassinet.
Don't let her go too long btwn feedings. Crying is her only way to let you
know she is hungry (or wet or in pain).
Hang in there tending to her needs as this stage will soon pass!
Rest/sleep when she is sleeping like during her naps in the daytime.
